Lauren Capelin

Senior VC BD Manager at Amazon Web Services

I am a community strategist and disruptive innovation specialist with sector expertise in web3, fintech, the sharing economy, startups and early-stage investing - topics I speak, write and provide commentary on regularly. Before joining the team at AWS Startups as Ecosystem Support Manager, I was Principal at Startmate, Australia and New Zealand’s best startup accelerator, where I oversaw Founder Scouting, Investments and Media. Prior to this role, I was Partner of Platform at Reinventure Fund, an Australian venture capital firm focused on investing in disruptive financial services startups, where I launched and grew their portfolio platform services, and contributed to the formation of the national fintech ecosystem. I worked closely with the founding contributors of Fintech Australia, where I later served on the board. Throughout this time I also actively worked to spotlight issues of gender representation across the fintech, venture capital and startup ecosystem generally, launching and collaborating on a number of initiatives to address these issues through this time, and continuing today. In 2010, I worked with author and thought-leader Rachel Botsman on the launch of her first book, What's Mine Is Yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption. Co-founding Collaborative Lab, we worked alongside leading thinkers, entrepreneurs and community champions to play an instrumental role in growing collaborative consumption into a global economy and movement between 2010-2015.

Digital Romanticism: Can AI Help Us Find Ourselves?

AI can write poems, print paintings, and write code—but can it help us understand who we really are? In an age where technology can both amplify individuality and flatten us into data points, we explore the rise of Digital Romanticism: the quest to use AI for self-discovery rather than self-erasure. From dream analysis to founder psychology, this session brings together a techno-philosopher, a polymath turned AI founder, and a startup sage to unpack the tension between nuance and homogeneity. Will AI be our mirror or just another echo chamber? Let’s find out.
